CALSARA Committees
Training
The Training Team ensures CALSARA members have the skills, confidence, and competency needed to respond safely and effectively during search and rescue operations. They design and deliver all GSAR training, facilitate MIT SAR Basics, coordinate specialty skill courses, and support members in preparing for certification pathways such as Searcher, Team Lead, and Search Manager. The team works closely with in-house and external instructors and subject-matter experts to keep training high-quality, realistic, and aligned with provincial SAR standards.
Operations
The Operations Team oversees CALSARA’s core search and rescue functions. They maintain liaison with tasking agencies, coordinate the call-out system, support Search Managers, and ensure operational readiness across the organization. This team manages deployment logistics, response protocols, specialty operational teams (Bike, OHV, etc.), and the systems that get CALSARA into the field quickly and safely during emergencies.
Member Relations
The Member Relations (MR) Team is focused on the people who make CALSARA possible. They lead recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, annual reviews, certifications tracking, and member support. MR helps ensure a positive, connected, and engaged volunteer experience by supporting member wellness, conflict resolution, recognition programs, and organizational communication. They are the backbone of CALSARA’s volunteer culture.
Asset Management
The Assets Team maintains everything CALSARA relies on to function—vehicles, radios, GPS, uniforms, other equipment, and technical tools. They ensure every piece of gear is operational, safe, and ready for deployment at a moment’s notice. From routine checks and repairs to equipment upgrades and inventory management, this team keeps CALSARA’s infrastructure strong and dependable.
Community Relations
The Community Relations (CR) Team represents CALSARA to the public. They manage social media, community outreach, safety education, AdventureSmart presentations, fundraising initiatives, and public events like expos, booths, and demonstrations. The CR Team helps build awareness of SAR prevention and strengthens CALSARA’s connection to Calgary through education and engagement.
Occupational Health & Safety
The OH&S Team ensures all CALSARA activities—training, search operations, and community events—are conducted as safely as possible. They develop safety procedures, monitor risks, support hazard reporting, and help ensure compliance with provincial health and safety standards. This team works closely with all Directorates to support safe practices, equipment use, and incident review processes.
