Because training new volunteer searchers involves a lot of time, money and resources, Calgary Search and Rescue Association recruits volunteers no more than once a year. All applicants must complete an application, apply for a security check and attend an interview. Approximately 40% of applicants were accepted in 2010.

We accept only enthusiastic people who are willing to commit to training twice a month, a committee meeting once a month, plus events and searches. A search is an emergency and can happen at any time. Our volunteers need to be ready to be deployed into the field at a moment's notice.

We are looking for volunteers with the following criteria:
  • Over 18 years old
  • Dedicated to helping people in distress
  • Willing to attend two regular training sessions a month, plus meetings and searches
  • Standard first aid certificate (current within six months of expiry)
  • Good physical condition!
  • A team player
  • Volunteer oriented
  • No criminal record
  • COMMITMENT!!!

    The 2010 Recruiting Process:

    The following are dates for the 2010 Recruitment and New Member Training.     Please keep checking training dates, as there might be some revisions:

    Thursday, February 18th, 7pm to 9pm. Information Night and Open House, interview registration (Info session to start at 7:30)

    Saturday February 27th - 9am to 5pm : Interviews and selection
    Tuesday March 3rd - Notification of interview results
    Thursday April 15th - 7pm to 10pm : Recruit Training
    Thursday April 22nd - 7pm to 10pm : Recruit Training
    Saturday April 24th - 8am to 5pm : Recruit Training
    Sunday April 25th - 8am to 5pm : Recruit Training
    Thursday April 29st - 7pm to 10pm : Recruit Training
    Saturday May 1st - 8am to 5pm : Optional Training
    Saturday May 8/9 - 8am Sat to 5pm Sun : Recruit Wilderness Training
    Graduation: Thursday May 20th 7pm

    The Information Night is a chance for you to come to CALSARA's base and find out more about what we do and what you can expect. On this night you can also book your interview time.

    You absolutely MUST be able to make the interview and all of the recruit training dates shown in red text. (The only exception is May 1st, which is optional).
